Tragedy Strikes: Hurricane Helene Takes the Lives of a Mother, Her Fiancé, and Their Two Young Sons

As the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and ⁤Milton unfolds, it will ⁣take time ⁣to fully assess the extent of the devastation caused by these storms. Reports are emerging from affected regions, revealing ⁣a‍ heartbreaking narrative of destruction and‌ loss. Earlier this week, we shared the tragic story of Khyzier and Khazmir Williams, twin infants believed ⁤to be among the youngest‌ victims of Hurricane⁢ Helene at‌ just five weeks ⁣old.‌ We also ⁣recounted‍ the‌ sorrowful tale of a couple in South Carolina who were found embracing each other in death.

Today brings more‌ tragic ‌news: a family of four lost their lives in North ⁤Carolina while trying to evacuate⁢ their home in Green Mountain as Hurricane Helene approached.

Alison Wisely, her fiancé Knox Petrucci, and her two sons—Felix, aged 9, and Lucas, aged 7—attempted to leave their residence around noon last Friday as storm conditions worsened. Unfortunately, while navigating through rising floodwaters, their vehicle began to float away. In a desperate bid for safety, they exited their‍ car with ⁤hopes of returning home but‌ were tragically‌ swept ‍away by the currents into Toe River.

A witness at the scene⁤ reportedly warned Alison and Knox against approaching the⁢ water’s edge before⁢ attempting a rescue effort.

The bodies were recovered over several ⁣days: Alison was found on October⁣ 4th in Tennessee; ‌Felix and Lucas followed on October 5th; Knox’s body was located on ⁤October 7th.

Family⁤ members revealed ⁢that they had taken precautions for Hurricane Helene’s⁢ arrival by preparing for minor flooding with pallets and sandbags. They believed that being surrounded by mountains ⁤would provide them protection from severe ⁢weather impacts.

However, reports indicate that flooding levels exceeded expectations dramatically—the Toe River surged ⁣an astonishing 22 feet high—leaving water just inches below ceiling level ⁢inside Alison and Knox’s single-story home.

“Knox was always there for friends who⁢ felt⁤ like family,” said his sister Briana Petrucci Yarbrough. “He inspired others through his genuine approach to life filled with love.” She added: “Alison was incredibly‌ intelligent—a devoted mother who co-parented lovingly with Lance Wisely.”

The Carolina Memorial Sanctuary has ‍pledged support ‍for covering funeral⁤ expenses for this grieving family; ⁣additionally, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to honor Alison’s family while assisting those affected by this catastrophic event.

Adding another layer of heartbreak is ⁣that Alison and Knox had ⁢plans to marry on ‍November 9th—a date now overshadowed by tragedy.

Recent statistics reveal that ⁣over 230 individuals have been confirmed dead due to Hurricane Helene’s impact as recovery efforts continue across western‌ North Carolina and eastern Tennessee nearly two weeks post-storm.
